Wildcat History

Our child-parent center is an early intervention program that offers a comprehensive system of academic and social support for children from disadvantaged backgrounds to prepare them for success in school. Located in North Lawndale, a low-income community on Chicago’s west side, we have one of the first child-parent centers launched in 1967 by Chicago public schools. The center uses Title I fund to help address the shortage of quality early childhood programs for three—and four—year—olds in provost areas. The city-wide initiative helps parents become more engaged in their child’s development. The center's focus is on pre-K-3rd grade alignment. The benefits include small class sizes, highly qualified staff, and early intervention strategies into 1st, 2nd and 3rd grades.

A Collaborative Effort

“It starts with a vision and a mission, but teachers need to believe in it, and from there, we build trust - it’s part of what moves us forward. It is what makes this not only a great place to teach but also a great place to learn.”

– Ms. Gorman, Teacher

We Are Family

“The staff at this school has a very strong connection. From the principal to custodians, everybody is friendly and looks out for each other; together, we all look out for our scholars.”

– Ms. Barnard, Teacher

“We are a generational school. I had the parents of some of my current students in class when I started teaching here, so I’m like a grandparent to these kids, in a way.”

– Mrs. Robinson, Teacher
